Week 4: The First Draft of The Guidebook

My main focus this week was to start the process of creating the guidebook, from its aesthetics, structure, style, content, and everything else in between. Since I want to cover as much ground as possible with this guidebook------meaning answering every potential question there is on this process to the best of my ability-------I was not able to completely finish it in this one week. I did make some solid progress, however, and I am confident that this will set me up nicely to almost, if not fully, finish it in the week ahead. This was the progress I am in a daily breakdown:

Monday (9/12)

  • Started the guidebook ----- cover page and general design of the book, table of contents (and what sections will make up the guidebook), and wrote the introduction of the guidebook (establishing its purpose, language style I chose to write it in, etc.)

Tuesday (9/13)

  • Wrote the "Equipment" section, and started to write on the "Locations to record" section.

Wednesday (9/14)

  • Finished "Locations to record" section, wrote "Knights HistoryCast objectives" sections, and started to write "KHC --- Finding a topic --- where to start" section

Thursday (9/15)

  • Finished "KHC ---- Finding a topic --- where to start" section, and started writing "KHC --- How to connect with the interviewee" section

Friday (9/16)

  • Had a Zoom meeting today with Dr. French and Holly to discuss these and more updates (from them) at 11 am.

A simple and mere bullet point list does not do justice to the amount of time and work it took to get to the point I am in with the guidebook (about 20 pages with what I've done so far), which is why I am glad and relieved that we had the Zoom meeting earlier today because I was able to show Dr. French and Holly in real time what I have been working on this whole week (and not just tell, like in this blog). They were impressed with what I have produced so far, and their reactions give me more motivation to continue putting it my all and have a finished product soon.

Some objectives for this next week coming up:

  • Have an almost, if not completed, first draft of the guidebook (I say "first draft" because as I told Holly and Dr. French in today's meeting, I would want both of them to actually review the guidebook and make edits where they deemed necessary ---- I want this to be as "perfect" of a product as it can be, and that requires their great and direct insight.)

  • Start practicing the editing for a Knights HistoryCast, with Dr. Noll's interview and with the music Holly sent me earlier this week (she sent me several important materials this week, which was a follow-up to what she said she was going to send me from the previous week). This will also help me in finishing the portion of the guidebook that is focused on "post-production for KHC" (since I've never really done one as of this moment). Also mentioned that in the meeting today.

  • Start working on a third-person intro/background of me (as Dr. French instructed me to do so in today's meeting)

  • Continue to keep in touch with Dr. French and Holly via email and potentially another Zoom meeting.

As always thank you for reading! The closer we get to October, the more excited and motivated I get (from all the excitement and motivation I have already!)
